CHRP Partners
The Chyulu Hills REDD+ Carbon Project (CHRP) is a collaborative initiative implemented through a partnership between local communities, government institutions, and conservation organizations. The project is coordinated through the Chyulu Hills Conservation Trust (CHCT) and brings together partners working to protect forests, wildlife, and community livelihoods across the Chyulu Hills landscape. Together, these partners support climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development within the project area.
Government Agencies
Kenya Forestry Service
The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) is a governmental government agency responsible for the management and protection of Kenya’s public forests, including Kibwezi Forest Reserve, which lies within the project area. Within the project area, KFS protect forest resources, prevent illegal logging, and promote sustainable forest management practices that contribute to climate change mitigation.
Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS)
The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) is the national government agency responsible for managing wildlife and protected areas in Kenya. Within the CHRP landscape, KWS manages Chyulu Hills National Park and Tsavo National Park to supports wildlife protection, ecosystem monitoring, and wildlife law enforcement.
Non-governmental Organizations
Big Life Foundation
Big Life Foundation plays a key role in wildlife protection and landscape conservation. The organization supports ranger operations, community conservation programs, and efforts to reduce human–wildlife conflict across the Chyulu–Amboseli landscape.
Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust (MWCT)
The Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust (MWCT) hosts the CHRP Project Office and supports the coordination and implementation of project activities. MWCT works closely with communities and project partners to strengthen conservation, research, and sustainable development across Maasai community lands and landscapes of the Chyulu Hills within the world-renowned Amboseli–Tsavo Ecosystem.
